In autumn of 2007, a bunch of disparate
Christians met together up north to try and figure out a faithful
politics of faith. The scene was Bradford, West
Yorkshire, and the event was The Subversive Gospel,
the second gathering in as many years that sought to draw a dialogue
between Christianity and Anarchism.
Some Quakers, Catholics, Methodists,
Evangelicals, and some not so sure met in Desmond Tutu House, an
Anglican fresh-expressions church in the heart of the city, for
workshops, food, seminars, drink, and singing. While some participants
had returned for more of the same from the previous year, there were
plenty of new faces too. It seems there are a lot of us out there:
Christians interested in Anarchism. Perhaps it’s not so silly
after all!

Chris Howson’s

What the people say:
“The
best thing about the conference was being able to meet and socialise with
different people of similar mindsets, and the curry house and tour of
the local anarchist club were very enjoyable. Between participative
exercises, hearing people’s stories, randomness, and the range of
people involved, it all made for a fantastic weekend.”
